
Scope of Works
The Townsville Port Inner Harbour Expansion (TPIX) Project involves the redevelopment of berths 8 and 10 (Stage A) to enhance cargo loading efficiency and provide north Queensland with a dedicated cruise and military berth.

Piling on the milestones
Work is gathering pace on the Port of Townsville’s quayside makeover, with crews driving the first of 220 piles for the $118 million Townsville Inner Harbour Expansion.

Rock haulage to begin
Rock material is required to be hauled into the Port for use in constructing the wharf revetment and to protect the Berth 10 shoreline against wave action.
Haulage of rock will begin on an as required basis later this month.

Lennon Drive realignment
The Seymour Whyte Smithbridge Joint Venture (SWSJV) will begin construction work on Lennon Drive before Easter.
Initial activity will be focusedon the realignment of the road bordered by Queensland Sugar Limited (QSL) and Maritime Safety Queensland and will involve the alternate closure of south and northbound lanes.

Localised dredging underway
The Seymour Whyte Smithbridge Joint Venture (SWSJV) is mobilising in May to use an excavator, barges, tugs and push boats for localised dredging inside theBerth 8 and Beth 10 areas.

Work starts on terminal building
The most exciting step forward in June is that work is beginning on the passenger terminal with the construction of the the terminal building.

First fender set
The Townsville Port Inner Harbour Expansion achieved an exciting milestone in July, with the first of Berth 8’s fender blocks successfully poured.
The first 18 metres of the new wharf is now almost complete, meaning the final shape of the upgraded Berth 8 can now be seen.

Terminal building takes shape
Townsville’s cruise terminal is starting to take shape.
The first walls for the multi-purpose passenger building have been erected on schedule, with construction on the facility’s meet-and-greet plaza, café and courtyard to commence next month.

Harbour landscape changing
Townsville Port Inner Harbour Expansion (TPIX) workers have begun to remove Suter Pier Shed from berths 8 and 9 as they prepare for the installation of a new 3000-tonne per hour shiploader.

Changed traffic conditions
Motorists are advised of changed traffic conditions on Archer Street, between Ross Street and Tully Street South Townsville from mid-February for approximately three months.

The highly-anticipated project involves the reconstruction and extension of the Port of Townsville’s existing Berth 10 to accommodate military, cruise, and commercial shipping and the construction of a multi-purpose passenger terminal building adjacent to Ross Creek. The program of works also features a concurrent upgrade of Berth 8 to enhance the port’s capacity.
