Projects
Multifix has a strong tradition of delivering high-quality work on time and within budget.
Management and staff are experienced in many facets of the construction industry including, but not limited to:
- Water Infrastructure including Recycled and Sewage Treatment plants, pipeline-related work and dam/weir construction works
- power stations, and
- highway projects including bridges and retaining structures.
Multifix has contributed to many world-class infrastructure projects including some of the largest-scale and most-important construction projects in Australia.
Some recent examples of its work include:
Hale Street Link
Hale Street Link is a key component of Brisbane City Council’s Trans Apex transport plan. The bridge will be a four lane toll bridge connecting Coronation Drive and Hale Street in Milton to Montague Road, Merivale and Cordelia streets in South Brisbane.
Multifix Constructions is the contractor engaged to deliver the formwork and concrete components of the Coronation Drive Viaduct (Overpass) as well as abutment and in-situ aspects of the main cross river bridge. Multifix has recently undertaken accelerated works to the northern pier table and the southern end span which required 24/7 shift work seven days a week to meet the program and have it completed before the bridge traveller is relocated.
In addition to this, Multifix completed early work on precast components of the main bridge piers. These were constructed off site and floated up river on barges where they were then lifted into place to provide formwork for the mid river pile caps.
Jilalan Rail Yard Upgrade
The upgrade of the Jilalan Rail Yard (Sarina, near Mackay) was undertaken by Coal Stream Alliance for Queensland Rail. Multifix was employed to provide formwork and concrete to a number of rail bridges, underpass and drainage structures.
This upgrade was necessary to increase the capacity of the rail system from 29 trains to 42 trains per day. The Jilalan yard is a key link in the Goonyella coal supply chain, delivering coal to Hay Point and Dalrymple Bay for export.
Darling Downs Power Station
The Darling Downs Power Station is situated 40km west of Dalby. It is owned by Origin Energy and construction is undertaken by the Darling Downs Construction Joint Venture. CH2M Hill and Laing O’Rourke are responsible for the construction aspect of the joint venture using GE equipment.
Multifix Construction was successful in an open tender on the initial packages which later became a sole source negotiation for all major plant and equipment foundations.
Once complete the Station will output 630 megawatts of power utilizing Coal Seam Gas Technology. It is the biggest Combined Cycle Station in Australia and will power the equivalent of 400,000 homes.
Bundamba Advanced Water Treatment Plant
The Bundamba Advanced Water Treatment Plant (AWTP) is a key component of the Queensland Government's Western Corridor Recycled Water (WCRW) Project. Thiess Pty Ltd, in a joint venture with Black & Veatch and the Department of Infrastructure, is responsible for the design and construction of this world-class advanced water treatment plant.
Located near Ipswich, 40km west of Brisbane, the Bundamba AWTP is designed to alleviate pressure on south-east Queensland's existing dams and waterways by providing an alternate water supply for end users in the region. Initially this alternate supply will be from the Swanbank Power Station.
Multifix is responsible for the construction of the major concrete structures on the project including the pre-treatment facility, treated water tank, overflow attenuation tank, MF-RO building, as well as other pump stations and associated concrete structures.
Concrete approximately 20 000 cu.m.
Formwork area approx 30 000 sq.m
Trackstar Alliance
The Trackstar Alliance was formed between Thiess, Queensland Rail and United Group to deliver rail infrastructure upgrades throughout South East Queensland.
Multifix Constructions has completed work on several sites for Trackstar Alliance. Namely the Robina to Varsity Lakes and Caboolture to Beerburrum sections.
Robina to Varsity Lakes Railway Extension
The Gold Coast rail line is being extended by 4km from Robina to Varsity Lakes.
This project is the first step in the progressive extension of the Gold Coast line to Coolangatta Airport.
With Gold Coast City's population expected to grow to about 520,000 people by 2011, the Robina to Varsity Lakes passenger rail line section will help meet growing transport requirements.
Multifix is responsible for the construction of the Robina Tunnel Bridge Abutments and roof works, as well as three other critical road bridges.
Burdekin Pipeline
The Burdekin to Moranbah Pipeline was primarily constructed to enable the Queensland coal mining industry to better plan for future expansion. The substantial growth in world demand for Queensland coking coal has led to a number of recent coal mine developments in the Bowen Basin.
McConnell Dowell, working for SunWater, was the main contractor on the project, responsible for the construction of about 270km of pipeline from the Burdekin Falls Dam to Moranbah.
Multifix was responsible for the construction of all concrete pump stations as well as associated water-retaining balance tanks and other miscellaneous concrete structures.
Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal
The Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal is undergoing a major expansion designed to increase its capacity by 50 per cent over the next three to four years. This is the seventh expansion stage since the terminal was first commissioned in 1982.
McConnell Dowell was the main contractor responsible for the DBCT7X project and, under their guidance, Multifix was responsible for the construction of seven elevated transfer towers and associated concrete structures.
Kogan Creek Power Station
The Kogan Creek Power Project is a 750 megawatt coal-fired power station and adjacent coal mine located near Chinchilla in south-west Queensland.
This $1.2 billion project is the latest large-scale generation project to be developed in Queensland under the State Government's Clean Energy Policy.
CS Energy owns the Kogan Creek Power Project, and a consortium comprised of Siemens and Hitachi are responsible for the station's construction.
The project was commissioned in September 2007 and delivers electricity to the national grid. It is the largest single generating unit in Australia and operates as a base load station, generating electricity 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Under the guidance of McConnell Dowell, Multifix was responsible for the construction of all major concrete structures and associated ground slabs.
Concrete approx 20,000 cu M.
Braemer Power Station
The energy efficient Braemar Power Station Project has the capacity to generate 450MW of power that will help to meet Queensland's ever-increasing demand for electricity at peak times.
Braemar is fuelled by environmentally friendly gas and generates about a third fewer greenhouse gas emissions compared with those of an equivalent coal-fired generator.
Under the guidance of McConnell Dowell Contractors, Multifix was responsible for the construction of all major concrete structures.
Other notable projects include:
- Condamine Power Station
- Caboolture to Beerburrum Rail Duplication
- Mackay Recycling Plant: concrete structure including pump stations
- Burnett River Dam: spillways and intake towers
- Browns Plains / Mt Lindsay Highway upgrade: culverts and retaining walls
- Caboolture Northern Bypass: bridge works
- Landers Shute Water Treatment Plant: water tank construction
- Suncorp Stadium: walkways, retaining walls and bridge works.
